Sadiq Gulma believes ideas shape the world. Sadiq’s works and interests intersect ensuring accessibility to potable water (SDG 6), development of inclusive, safe and dynamic cities (SDG 11) while paying attention to its environmental footprint. His career spans working for both public, private, non-profit and international development organizations. He worked with Japan International Cooperation Agency for four years, managing and delivering their sectoral programs in WASH, urban development, environment and STI (science, technology and innovation-working with the start-ups). Working side by side with government counterparts and other stakeholders, Sadiq supported notable projects around improving access to clean water in rural areas, lead-up processes to the review of the Abuja Masterplan, implementation of the Nigerian National Water Masterplan, Reduction of Non-revenue Water in the FCT, developing an integrated solid waste management system in the FCT, development of a two-step loan project in the financial sector of Nigeria, development of an online recycling ecosystem in the FCT to mention a few. Sadiq won full merit scholarships from Shell Petroleum Nigeria and ELF/TOTAL Petroleum for his civil engineering undergraduate studies in Ahmadu Bello University, a full merit postgraduate scholarship from the African Union Commission at the prestigious Pan African University Institute for Basic Sciences, Technology and Innovation in Kenya, graduating as the first pioneer student with a master’s in environmental engineering. His master’s thesis on living green roofs, won him a Green Talent award in 2015, from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research in Germany. On account of that, Sadiq was invited as Visiting Researcher at the historic Bauhaus University Weimar to advance his research on energy efficient buildings at the Department of Building Physics. He is a certified PMI-Project Management Professional, LEED Accredited Professional for New Buildings; Construction and a COREN registered engineer in Nigeria. Sadiq enjoys writing, outdoor activities, reading, traveling, and talking to like minds.
